For the most reliable signal available, the SPY® PT (Pig Transmitter) uses low frequency signals to effectively and consistently penetrate a steel pipe wall. Numerous transmitter sizes are offered to cover a full spectrum of pipe diameters. Each transmitter is self-contained and travels inside various pigs, attached to versatile brackets, or towed. A handheld receiver and wand are used to locate the transmitter. Examples of applications are: Mainline transmission, Gathering lines, subsea lines, munincipal gas, water/wastewater/refining and the process industries.

MODEL 1 – The Model 1 System is designed for pipe sizes 2 to 4 inches. This system includes the PT-101 Transmitter, especially designed to fit poly (foam) and urethane pigs. The PT-101 transmitter negotiates line sizes of 2 to 4 inches. Not suited for metal body pigs.

MODEL 2 – The Model 2 System is designed for pipe sizes 2 inches to 8 inches. This system includes the PT-107 Transmitter, especially designed to fit poly (foam) and urethane pigs. The PT-107 transmitter negotiates line sizes of 2 inches to 8 inches. Not suited for metal body pigs.

MODEL 4 – The Model 4 System is designed for pipes 6 inches and up, using the PT-275 Transmitter.

MODEL 12 – The Model 12 system is designed for pipes 12 inches and up, using the PT-750 Transmitter.

To locate a pig equipped with a SPY® Transmitter, the SPY® PTR (Pig Tracker Receiver and Wand) registers the changing magnetic field produced by the SPY® Transmitter. When the Transmitter is located, the PTR produces both an audio and visual output. With two standard 9-volt alkaline batteries, the PTR can be powered continuously for approximately 50 hours. Special wands are available for sub-sea applications, with depths of up to 10,000 feet [3000 meters].
