Pipeline Pigs

The Girard Polly-Pig is constructed of open cell polyurethane foam of various densities and is available with various types of external coatings. Although each pig has a specific application, some are interchangeable according to the user's preference within certain parameters.

The Girard Polly-Pig is molded of polyurethane foam material of light, medium or heavy density. Its bullet shape is designed to aid in traversing fittings and valves. Concave ends are available for bi-directional service. The length of the pig is approximately twice its diameter to reduce the possibility of the pig tumbling in the pipeline. The diameter of the Polly-Pig is larger than the inside diameter of the pipe. This is done to exert a frictional drag between the foam pig and pipe wall. Pigs can be ordered to any custom size requirements.

Polly-Pigs have a concave base plate with a 90A durometer polyurethane coating. This provides a maximum rear sealing surface for the propelling forces of the fluids or gases being used.

Swabs or bare pigs, which have only the bases coated, are normally used in drying or batching operations. Special double-nose or double-dished pigs are used in bi-directional service.

The exterior coatings on the foam bodies consist of criss-cross type spirals of 90A durometer polyurethane. These spirals add strength and give greater wiping and scraping action as compared with bare foam. Girard manufactures two types of criss-cross pigs: the original pattern and the patented "Turning Pattern." Wire brushes, silicon carbide or plastic bristles can be embedded in these polyurethane spirals to add maximum scraping or brushing action.

Wirebrush foam pigs are primarily used for cleaning lines with buildup, rust, mill scale, or debris in new construction, and routine maintenance applications. Models are available in light, medium, and heavy density foam. The pigs are constructed from an open-cell polyurethane foam with a durable polyurethane elastomer coating in a criss-cross pattern and embedded with wirebrush straps.

Available Options:

5 pound, and 8 pound foam density, single-spiral, criss-cross, totally coated, double-dish, double-nose, double length, pulling rope or cable, transmitter cavity, and customized dimensions for special pigging applications.

Bare foam pigs are primarily used for drying and sweeping of loose debris, gauging of internal pipe conditions prior to extensive pigging, sealing behind a stuck pig, batching operations, and product removal. Models are available in light (1-2 lbs/ft3), medium (5-7 lbs/ft3), and heavy (8-10 lbs/ft3) density foam. The pigs are constructed from an open-cell polyurethane foam with a durable polyurethane elastomer coating on base.

Available Options:

2 pound, 5 pound, and 8 pound foam density, double-dish, double-nose, double length, pulling rope or cable, transmitter cavity, and customized dimensions for special pigging applications.

The FDP series of foam disc pigs are an excellent pig for all types of batching and product removal applications. Models are available in medium and heavy density foam. The unique design offers multiple discs for unsurpassed sealing capabilities. Alternate variations of this pig include rear sealing cup, as well as special lengths and diameters for unique applications, including dual-diameter.

Available Options:

5 or 8 pound-per-cubic-foot-density, cone nose, double length, pulling rope or cable, transmitter cavity configuration

The Girard Turbo Pigs are solid-cast polyurethane pigs available in up to three (3) durometers with multiple configurations of cups, discs or a combination of cups & discs for varying pipeline applications.

The Girard Turbo Pigs one-piece body design preserves its flexibility for negotiating pipeline bends and full-port valves while still maintaining a superior seal. The one-piece body also requires no assembly and reduces the weight for ease of use. The multiple sealing surfaces are excellent for removing liquids from the line, especially in wet gas systems. A few of the Girard Turbo Pigs have hollow cores which allow for the expansion of the pig while under pressure resulting in better sealing and scraping of the pipeline.

If more aggressive cleaning is required, wire brushes can be attached to the body Girard Turbo Pigs.

The Girard Mandrel Pig consists of a solid steel body with polyurethane or rubber cup and disc wear parts as well as optional accessories for specific applications. This design allows for the easy onsite removal and replacement of the cups, discs and other ware parts with little down time.

The Girard Mandrel Pigs’ cups and disc are available in Polyurethane, Neoprene and Nitrile in various durometers for superior scraping and sealing. They attach to the Girard Mandrel Pig either through a center-hole for smaller sizes (standard 3” thru 14”) or bolt-hole circles for larger sizes (standard 16” and up). The number of cups and discs as well as their arrangement can be customized to accommodate certain application and desired results. This gives the Girard Mandrel Pig the ability to overcome some of the most difficult pipeline obstacles such as short pipeline bends, tees and multi-diameter pipelines.

The ability to add Brushes, Magnets, Gauging Plates and other options to the nearly limitless configurations of the Girard Mandrel Pig make it an excellent choice for pipeline cleaning, batching, gauging, displacement, bi-directional, dual-diameter, hydrostatic testing and removal of paraffin and scale build-up.

Girard solid and inflatable polyurethane spheres are manufactured in a range of durometers for pipeline and meter prover applications. Neoprene, Nitrile and Viton spheres are also available for special applications. To achieve the maximum performance, Girard inflatable spheres must be properly filled and sized. Specific applications will determine the most effective sizing and filler fluid to be used.

Foam spheres are available in various styles as with foam pigs, including bare, criss-cross, silicon-carbide, wirebrush, and plastic bristle. They are used for the same applications as standard foam pigs, however, they are able to negotiate some piping configurations that standard foam pigs cannot. Spheres can also be magazine loaded in specially designed sphere launchers for automated mechanical launching.

Coated foam pigs are used for regular wiping and general cleaning. Models are available in light, medium, and heavy density foam. The pigs are constructed from an open-cell polyurethane foam with a durable polyurethane elastomer coating in a variety of patterns with criss-cross being the most common.

Available Options:

5 pound and 8 pound foam density, single-spiral, criss-cross, totally coated, double-dish, double-nose, double length, pulling rope or cable, transmitter cavity, and customized dimensions for special pigging applications.
