The DDX – Directional Drilling Kit is a high performance system designed to protect welded joints on PP, PE and FBE coated pipelines in directional drilling applications. The DDX system consists of the following key components:

Force-cure epoxy primer applied to steel for maximum corrosion protection. Epoxy primer is only required for 3-layer applications.

Primary sleeve composed of high shear strength adhesive, a protective heat shrinkable HDPE backing, and a pre-attached closure patch.

Sacrificial sleeve incorporated to protect the leading edge of the underlying primary sleeve during pullthrough operation.

In addition to providing effective protection against pull-through forces that occur during the directional drilling operation, Canusa’s DDX is a multi-layer system that provides superior corrosion protection at pipeline weld joints.

The patented Scar-Guard® line of products is designed to protect field joint and mainline coatings from mechanical stresses and scarring associated with horizontal directional drilling (HDD), boring and micro-tunneling of pipelines. Scar-Guard® is a composite abrasion resistant overcoat comprised of fiberglass cloth and pre-impregnated flexible resin that is activated by water and cured within minutes. This sacrificial outer laminate system protects preapproved anticorrosion field joint coatings and mainline coatings such as FBE, liquid epoxies, shrink sleeves, and tapes.
The Scar-Guard® line of products minimizes the need for costly repairs after pull back, and provides robust protection of the underlying pipeline coating. U.S. Patent #8522827

Compression Film and a perforating tool are also used to install the Scar-Guard®.

Protal ARO is a VOC free, 100% solids liquid epoxy coating formulated to be applied over FBE as an ARO coating (abrasion resistant overlay). It is a 3:1 ratio compatible for most plural component spray units coating that can be spray or hand applied in the field or shop. Protal ARO is used to protect FBE mainline coatings and over Protal 7200 on girth welds during directional drilling, bores, river crossings and other rough terrain applications. Protal ARO can be used to provide additional protection to the coating on bends, fittings and fabrication when severe handling or rough terrain persist.

Powercrete® R95 is a single coat, 100% solids, high build epoxy novolac that coats, repairs and rehabilitates pipelines operating at maximum temperatures up to 95ºC (203ºF). As an abrasion resistant overlay (ARO) it is compatible with FBE and CTE mainline coatings and can be used on any metal structure. This 2-component, solvent-free epoxy can easily achieve a dry film thickness of up to 40 mils in a single application and can be hand or spray applied.
